Time required:     About 20 minutes

Things required:  Digital camera, two pieces of A4 paper, a pencil, a ruler and a fun friend to help.

1. Put the two pieces of paper on a flat surface (preferably not a table)

2. Stand barefoot with each foot on each piece of paper, about a foot(!) apart, and with your weight centred equally across each foot, shoulders relaxed and head looking forward

3. Roll up your jeans / trousers / jodhpur breeches / plus fours to just above your knees (don't worry - we're not fussed about hairy legs)

4. Get your fun friend to draw around each foot onto the paper (please make sure the pencil is kept in an upright position all the way round - just so that the distance from the pencil line to the outside of your foot is an equal pencil width all way round)

5. Ask your fun friend to kneel on the floor in front of you and take a picture of your feet ensuring your feet fill the frame as near as possible

6. Do the same from behind

7. Put your socks and shoes back on to keep warm

8. On the paper for the right foot, mark the back your heel, then mark the tip of the longest toe (see diagram)

  • How many days a week you'll be running, plus rough average of miles on each run
  • What surface you'll be running on, ie concrete, treadmill, through the woods, or over the hills and far away
  • Whether you'll also (or only) need your running shoes for the treadmill at the gym, and if so, for roughly how many minutes per session, and how many times a week
  • Your approximate weight (don't be shy - we're all shapes and sizes here - just be fairly accurate to the nearest half a stone)
  • Whether you've ever had any foot, ankle, knee, hip, or back problems (pains, twists, breaks etc, and if you're still experiencing them)
  • If you're a mum-to-be

HEY PRESTO! You're finished! Please allow five working days for us to contact you with some serious suggestions of suitable running shoes. Then once you've decided, we'll deliver them to your home / work / caravan / love nest / other. oth
